A powerful explosion shook parts of Malta early this morning, with the blast being heard and felt across several localities and causing damage kilometres away from the scene. The explosion occurred at around 6:30am in the Salini area, along Triq Tal-Qadi in the limits of Naxxar, prompting a major response from emergency services. Videos sent to Lovin Malta showed the moment of the explosion itself, while footage and photos from across the island captured a huge plume of smoke rising into the sky in its aftermath. In Qawra, residents reported shattered windows and damage to buildings, with footage and images sent to Lovin Malta showing broken glass strewn across pavements and roads. Some residents said entire rows of windows had been damaged by the force of the shockwave. Brandon Pisani, who leads the Police Community and Media Relations Unit (CMRU), confirmed that no casualties had been reported following the incident. Pisani also confirmed that all workers believed to have been at the fireworks facility had been accounted for. Investigations into the cause of the explosion remain ongoing. The incident quickly drew reactions from across Malta, including from Prime Minister Robert Abela and PN Leader Alex Borg.
