Meet The Eight New Faces Heading To Malta’s Parliament
Malta’s next parliament will feature at least eight new faces, with seven of them contesting a general election for the very first time. Six of the newcomers were elected on the Nationalist Party ticket, while two secured seats for Labour. The number could still increase once gender-balance mechanisms and casual elections are concluded. On the PN side, former secretary general Michael Piccinino secured election from District 4, while architect Julian Borg won a seat on District 6. Lawyer Conrad Borg Manche’ was elected on both Districts 5 and 10. Deputy leader Alex Perici Calascione secured election from District 9, while Beppe Galea became one of parliament’s youngest MPs after winning a seat in Gozo’s District 13. Lawyer Frank Anthony Tabone also entered parliament through the proportionality adjustment mechanism. Labour’s newcomers are John Grech, elected from District 8, and Nigel Vella, elected from District 1. Both were contesting a general election for the first time. While several familiar names retained their seats, the arrival of these newcomers ensures that Malta’s next parliament will include a fresh intake of politicians from both sides of the House. Which of these new MPs are you most interested in seeing in parliament? •
