Eastern Samar capital logs dangerous 45°C heat index

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – Dangerous high temperatures continued to prevail Monday over Borongan City, Eastern Samar, which recorded a heat index of 45ºC, the highest in the Visayas province, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said. The index reading placed the Eastern Samar capital under Pagasa’s “danger” category, where prolonged exposure outdoors may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. The latest reading comes two days after Borongan City registered an even higher heat index of 52°C on May 30, one of the highest recorded in the region this year.
