‘Can I Buy It?’: Immanuel Mifsud Reacts To Poignant Invalid Vote Quoting His Poem
Beloved Maltese writer Immanuel Mifsud has reacted to some of his most popular words being used to invalidate a vote over the weekend. Despite a drastic drop this time round, invalid votes hit 6,093 during this election. And one specific protest vote, “Aqta’ Fjura u Ibni Kamra” (pluck a flower, build a room), sprawled across the PL and PN section of a ballot, went viral for quoting one of Mifsud’s most popular poems. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta) “I solemnly swear this is not my vote,” Mifsud wrote on Facebook sharing the photo snapped by Lovin Malta during yesterday’s vote counting. “If whoever did this can contact me, I’ll take them out for a coffee.” “Is there someone who knows whether I can buy it from the Electoral Commission?” Mifsud ended. What did you make of this invalid vote? Did you agree with the person’s sentiment? •
