
P35.4-M smuggled onions, garlic seized in Nueva Ecija
TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija — Authorities on Monday seized P35.4 million worth of allegedly smuggled onions and garlic in a cold storage facility in Barangay Calipahan here during an inspection led by Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno and National Bureau of Investigation Director Melvin Matibag. Nepomuceno said the seized items, including 6,088 bags of small yellow onions from Holland, 1,080 bags of big yellow onions from China, 3,780 bags of red onions from China, and 12,350 bags of garlic from China, were found in a rented portion of Talco Cold Storage Corporation.
