Almost 30% Of People In Malta Can’t Afford A Week-Long Holiday Abroad
New Eurostat data shows that 28% of people in Malta could not afford a one-week annual holiday away from home in 2025. The figure places Malta exactly at the EU average, where more than a quarter of Europeans were also unable to afford a basic week-long break. The infographic compares countries using suitcase graphics, with the filled section representing the percentage of people unable to afford a holiday. Across Europe, the highest rates were recorded in Romania at 61%, followed by Greece at 47%. Luxembourg registered the lowest percentage at 11%. Malta’s figure was similar to Cyprus and higher than countries such as Germany, France, the Netherlands and Sweden. The figures highlight how, despite tourism remaining a major part of Mediterranean economies, holidays themselves are still financially out of reach for many residents. Has travelling become less affordable? •
