Repeat Offender Jailed 18 Months For Cocaine Possession And Heroin Trafficking
Christopher Briffa has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and fined €500 after pleading guilty to cocaine possession and heroin trafficking offences linked to a police operation in St Julian’s . According to MaltaToday , the court heard that Briffa was arrested on 7th May after police found him in possession of cocaine in circumstances indicating it was not intended for personal use. Prosecutors said the offence was aggravated because it took place within 100 metres of an area frequently used by young people. Investigations also revealed that Briffa had been actively selling and trafficking heroin in the weeks and months leading up to his arrest. The court noted that Briffa was a repeat offender with a history of drug-related convictions and had previously been given opportunities to rehabilitate. Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo ruled that an effective prison sentence was unavoidable, stating that he had failed to learn from past mistakes. Inspector Pier Guido Saliba led the prosecution.
