Arsenal fans celebrate Premier League victory in Gombe
Thousands of Arsenal fans in Gombe State turned out in large numbers on Sunday, May 31, to celebrate the club’s historic Premier League victory, ending a 22-year wait for England’s most coveted domestic football trophy. The jubilant fans gathered at the newly constructed water fountain roundabout near the Gombe Government House, before embarking on a colourful victory parade through major streets of the state capital. Speaking at the event, Chairman of Arsenal Supporters Club, Gombe State Chapter, Malam Farouq Yarma, praised the unwavering loyalty and patience of the fans over the years. “After years of banter and mockery from rival supporters, we have finally broken the 22-year jinx. Yarma, who was a former Chairman of the Gombe State Sports Commission, said despite Arsenal’s disappointment in the UEFA Champions League final, he was optimistic the club would conquer Europe next season. “This season we reached the final. By the grace of God, next season we will go one step further and win the Champions League trophy,” he declared.
