2 held over alleged drug trafficking in Delta
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected drug traffickers and recovered 10 bags of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspects, identified as Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, also known as “Big Joe,” were arrested by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the suspects were arrested on May 29, 2026, during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Onitsha–Benin Expressway. He explained that the operatives intercepted an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon with registration number BEN 982 TE, in which the suspects were travelling. According to him, a thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 10 bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed inside the vehicle. Edafe added that preliminary investigations indicated the illicit drugs were being transported from Edo State to Awka, Anambra State, before the interception. He said the suspects are currently in custody while investigations are ongoing to unravel the extent of the criminal network and identify possible accomplices involved in the illegal trade.
