Kano PDP endorses Jonathan as party’s presidential candidate
The Chairman of the Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Tanimu Turaki’s faction, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, has announced that the state chapter has endorsed the decision of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) affirming former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election. Kibiya made the party’s position known during a press conference on Monday in Kano. He said the State Working Committee of the party “has reviewed the national executive’s decision and acknowledged with respect the processes that led to the decision, and we affirm our support for their right to determine the party’s national trajectory within the framework of our constitution and legal guidelines. “Our regional chapter remains aligned with the party’s broad objectives and will engage in constructive dialogue to advance the PDP’s mission across Kano and Nigeria,” Kibiya said. The chairman maintained that the PDP is committed to being a credible, competitive, and formidable force in both state and national politics, backed by a proven track record of resilience, reform, and public service. He assured that the party will work tirelessly to earn the votes and trust of the people of Kano, and to deliver policies that create jobs, improve security, and enhance essential services. Kibiya also condemned the recent disruption at the Abuja venue of the party’s national mini-convention. “We condemn in the strongest terms the disruption and blocking of access to the venue where the national PDP’s mini-convention was to present its presidential flag bearer. The action undermines the principles of democracy, free association, and constitutional rights upon which Nigeria’s political system is built,” he stated. Kibiya noted that such conduct poses a significant threat to the peaceful, inclusive, and competitive nature of the country’s democracy. The PDP, he added, calls on all political actors to uphold the rule of law, respect civil liberties, and pursue political engagement through lawful, peaceful, and constructive means. He further stated that despite defection pressures, the party remains solid in Kano with a sharp focus on delivering good governance to improve the lives of residents. He noted that the party will conclude the nomination of candidates seeking various elective offices for the 2027 elections by the end of June.
