
BI clarifies proposed traveler fee not yet approved
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Tuesday clarified that a proposed fee tied to its border system modernization project is still being reviewed and has not yet been approved. The clarification came after reports circulated claiming the agency would start collecting a P480 fee from travelers. BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said he had ordered a thorough review and consultations with stakeholders on the proposed $4, or around P247, user fee under the Civil Aviation and Immigration Security Services (CAISS) project.
