Alex Borg Has No Choice But To Give Up Gozo Seat
PN leader Alex Borg is set to relinquish his parliamentary seat in Gozo after being elected from two districts, with party rules leaving him no choice in the matter. According to the PN statute, candidates elected from two districts must give up the seat where they obtained the lower percentage of the district quota, rather than the lower number of votes. While Borg secured more first count votes in Gozo, obtaining 12,211 votes on the 13th District compared to 9,614 on the 12th District, his percentage of the quota was actually higher on the 12th District. Borg obtained 275.55% of the quota on the 12th District and 262.72% on the 13th District, meaning party rules require him to relinquish the Gozo seat. Borg was one of 15 MPs elected on two districts in the 2026 General Election, alongside eight Labour MPs and six other Nationalist MPs. What do you think of the PN’s rule on dual district elections? •
