FIRST LOOK: Cristiano Ronaldo Backed TATEL Is Bringing Spanish Glamour To St George’s Bay
Malta is getting its first taste of TATEL and judging by the interior design, this is not going to be your average seaside restaurant. The internationally acclaimed Spanish-Mediterranean dining brand, co-owned by Cristiano Ronaldo and Manuel Campos Guallar, is set to open in St George’s Bay this summer as part of db Group’s new waterfront development. And now, new renders have revealed what guests can expect: Art Deco glamour, warm lighting, bold interiors, live music energy and a terrace overlooking one of Malta’s busiest bays. The interiors, designed by Grace Design Studio, lean heavily into a 1920s-inspired aesthetic, with curved booths, patterned carpets, palm details, glowing lamps and a chandelier-lit dining room. One of the standout spaces is the bar, with a long illuminated counter, layered bottle displays and green ceramic finishes. It gives the venue a clear day-to-night feel, shifting from polished Mediterranean dining to something more social and music-driven as the evening develops. There is also a strong entertainment element running through the design, including a record-wall feature and DJ booth area, nodding to TATEL’s signature blend of food, music and atmosphere. For more intimate gatherings, the Malta venue will include a private dining room with a richly patterned table, mirrored wall features, wine storage and a warmer, more secluded feel. The waterfront terrace may end up being one of the biggest draws, with the renders showing soft lighting, hanging fixtures, patterned seating and views over St George’s Bay at night. One of the most striking areas features a central fountain-style installation beneath a chandelier and sculpted ceiling. The 182-cover restaurant will serve TATEL’s signature Spanish-Mediterranean menu, led globally by Executive Chef Juan Antonio Medina, whose background includes training at elBulli and leading the Michelin-starred Zalacain. Signature dishes expected in Malta include Arroz TATEL, a rice dish served with slow-cooked beef ribs, Cinco Jotas 100% Ibérico acorn-fed ham, and TATEL’s famous Basque cheesecake, which was awarded Best Cheesecake in Madrid. The drinks side will include a speakeasy-inspired cocktail list and a wine selection built around Spanish producers and international labels. TATEL first launched in 2014 and already operates in Madrid, Ibiza, Valencia, Dubai and Riyadh. Its Malta opening places St George’s Bay alongside some of the brand’s most high-profile international locations. “TATEL has always aimed to celebrate the energy, passion, and warmth of Spanish hospitality, and Malta felt like the perfect next step for the brand,” said Manuel Campos Guallar, Co-Founder of TATEL and President of Mabel Capital. Robert Debono, Director and CEO of db Group, said the arrival of TATEL adds “another exciting dimension” to Malta’s evolving dining and entertainment scene. Known for combining gastronomy, live music, cocktails and atmosphere, TATEL looks set to bring a very particular kind of Spanish glamour to Malta. And from the first renders alone, St George’s Bay may be about to get one of its most dramatic new venues yet. Tag someone you know is interested •
