LGAN mark 2026 women’s golf day with 9-hole event

The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) have began celebrating the 2026 Women’s Golf Day with a vibrant 9-hole shotgun tournament at the IE Ibas Golf Course in Abuja. Participants arrived the fairways dressed in the official red and white attire, transforming the course into a striking display of colour in celebration of women in golf. The event which began at 8:00am yesterday featured a blend of sport, camaraderie, and celebration of sisterhood. In a goodwill message, LGAN President, Dr. Lami Ahmed, extended congratulations to members, describing the occasion as more than just a sporting activity. “On this special occasion of Women’s Golf Day, I bring warm greetings and heartfelt appreciation to every LGAN member for your passion and commitment to the growth of women’s golf in Nigeria,” she said. “This day reminds us why we came together as an association to create a space where women can connect, grow, and lead through golf. This year’s theme, ‘Engage, Empower, Support,’ speaks directly to our purpose.” She encouraged members to view golf not only as a competitive sport, but also as a platform for mentorship, unity, and mutual support. “Let us carry the true spirit of the game on and off the course. When we win with grace and lose with dignity, we inspire more women and girls to pick up a club,” she added. Dr. Ahmed further urged members to uphold the values and reputation of the association. “Hold LGAN in high esteem. Protect its image in your words, your conduct, and your fellowship. It is through your attitude that we keep this association strong, respected, and attractive to new members.” She also commended the Competition Secretary, Diana Osmond, for her role in coordinating the event, alongside the Zonal Vice Presidents and Executive Committee members for their support. To add further glamour to the celebration, male golfers were invited as special guests of honour, a move organizers say will enhance the excitement and festive atmosphere of the day.
