Police train 565 Constables on weapon handling, marksmanship in Kogi

The Kogi state police command has successfully conducted a comprehensive training programme on weapon handling and marksmanship for five hundred and sixty-five (565) Constables . In his address at the Passing-Out Parade on Monday at the state police command’s headquarters in Lokoja , CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi said the training is an attempt to enhance operational efficiency, professionalism, and service delivery within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The state Police Boss stressed that the training, which commenced on 13th April, 2026, and lasted two months, was held in line with the strategic vision and initiatives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. “The Kogi State Police Command remains committed to improving the competence of its personnel through regular training and retraining programmes in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police for a professionally competent, service-driven, and people-friendly Police Force”, he said . According to him, the training is therefore aimed at strengthening the capacity of Police personnel to effectively address contemporary security challenges and improve public safety. “The programme was designed to equip the officers with the requisite knowledge and practical skills in the safe handling, maintenance, and effective use of firearms, while also instilling the principles of professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights”, he stressed . CP Kankarofi noted further that the Nigeria Police Force must continue to leverage the strength, energy, and potential of its young officers through continuous capacity-building initiatives to ensure a more efficient and responsive policing system. While CP Kankarofi commended the participants for their dedication, discipline, and commitment throughout the training period, he charged the graduating Constables to remain disciplined and make judicious use of the knowledge acquired. He emphasized that firearms entrusted to personnel are meant solely for the protection of lives and property ,and must be handled with utmost responsibility and professionalism. However, he appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for his unwavering commitment to personnel development and operational excellence, as well as the instructors and facilitators whose efforts contributed to the successful execution of the programme.
