Exiles Bay Temporarily Closed After Poor Water Quality Tests | Lovin Malta

Exiles Bay has been temporarily closed to swimmers after the Environmental Health Directorate (EHD) flagged the popular Sliema bathing site for poor water quality. The warning forms part of the EHD’s latest bathing water quality report , which identified eight sites around Malta and Gozo with poor water quality during the period under review. According to the directorate, “poor” water quality indicates elevated levels of faecal bacteria, prompting health authorities to advise against swimming in affected areas. Exiles Bay is the latest site to be added to the list and was marked as closed in the EHD’s findings. Other locations flagged for poor water quality include parts of Ġnejna Bay, Għajn Tuffieħa, Golden Bay, Għadira Bay, Balluta Bay and Ramla Bay. Meanwhile, several sites in Gozo that had previously been flagged for poor water quality have since improved and were reclassified as having good or sufficient water quality. The Environmental Health Directorate has not yet publicly disclosed the specific cause of the poor water quality recorded at Exiles Bay or what measures are being taken to address the issue. How often do you check water quality before swimming? •
