CNG calls for equal attention to Oyo, Borno kidnap victims

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has called on the Federal Government to ensure that victims of recent school abductions in Oyo and Borno states receive equal attention and support. The group, while condemning the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in both states, described the incidents as a reflection of the security challenges facing parts of the country and urged authorities to strengthen efforts to protect citizens. In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the coalition expressed concern over what it described as differences in public and official attention given to the two incidents. According to the group, about 46 schoolchildren and teachers were abducted on May 15, 2026, from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The coalition also referenced reports of the abduction of 42 pupils from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on the same day. Charanchi said the coalition believes all victims of insecurity, regardless of location, should receive equal attention and support from relevant authorities. “The Coalition wishes to make it clear that we condemn every act of terrorism, kidnapping and violence anywhere in Nigeria. We are not calling for less attention to Oyo State. Rather, we are advocating equal concern, empathy and support for all victims across the federation,” he said. The coalition maintained that every Nigerian life is important and that all affected communities deserve protection and assistance. It called on the Federal Government to intensify rescue efforts for victims in both Oyo and Borno states and to adopt a comprehensive security strategy aimed at addressing terrorism, banditry and other forms of violent crime nationwide. The group also advocated stronger protection of schools and rural communities, enhanced intelligence gathering and sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating across the country. According to the coalition, ensuring that all communities affected by insecurity receive adequate support would help strengthen public confidence and national unity. The group further urged authorities to continue working towards improving security across the country and ensuring justice for victims of criminal activities.
