Fresh Crisis in Adamawa ADC Over Reps Primary

A fresh crisis has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State following allegations that the outcome of the party’s House of Representatives primary election for Yola North, Yola South and Girei Federal Constituency is being manipulated. The campaign council of Engr. Abubakar Bashir (Sadeeq) has alleged an attempt to overturn the results of the primary election conducted on May 21, 2026, despite his emergence as the winner of the contest. According to results announced by party electoral officials on May 27, Bashir secured 33,931 votes to defeat six other aspirants. Zayyad Ayuba Tumba came second with 16,266 votes, while Yusuf Garba polled 14,611 votes. However, the campaign claimed a list circulating online suggests that another aspirant, reportedly one of the lowest-scoring candidates in the election, was forwarded to the party’s national headquarters as the winner. In a statement signed by Mohammed Daud Kachalla on behalf of the campaign council, the development was described as a deliberate attempt to subvert the will of ADC members across the constituency. “It has come to our shock and dismay that a purported list currently circulating online suggests that another aspirant, who scored the lowest number of votes during the primary election, was submitted to the National Headquarters as the winner of the election,” the statement said. The campaign insisted that Bashir’s victory was clear and overwhelming, warning that any attempt to alter the outcome would undermine internal party democracy and disenfranchise party members who participated in the exercise. It vowed to pursue all legal and constitutional avenues to protect what it described as a valid mandate freely given by party members. The campaign also called on the ADC leadership at both state and national levels to uphold the declared results and preserve the integrity of the party’s nomination process. Supporters were urged to remain calm and law-abiding while efforts are made to resolve the dispute. The ADC is yet to officially respond to the allegations. However, the controversy is expected to heighten tensions within the party as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
