NRC reassures passengers amid concerns over Abuja–Kaduna train operations
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has reassured passengers on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) corridor of its commitment to transparency, fairness and improved service delivery amid concerns over ticket availability and train operations. The assurance follows complaints from some commuters who alleged difficulties in accessing tickets and raised concerns about seating arrangements on certain train coaches. In a response, the Corporation said it had taken note of the issues being raised and was already reviewing operational processes to address challenges affecting service delivery on the corridor. The NRC explained that it remains committed to maintaining a transparent ticketing system and ensuring equitable access to available seats for all passengers, adding that internal mechanisms are in place to monitor ticket sales and operational procedures. According to the Corporation, ongoing efforts are focused on improving operational efficiency, enhancing equipment availability and restoring optimal service levels on the route. The Abuja–Kaduna corridor remains one of the busiest rail routes in the country, serving thousands of passengers weekly and providing a critical alternative to road travel. Industry observers note that growing patronage on the route has increased pressure on available rolling stock and operational resources, making continuous improvements necessary to meet passenger expectations. The Corporation emphasized that allegations of irregularities in ticket allocation or seat management are treated seriously and subjected to appropriate review processes whenever brought to management’s attention. Passengers were encouraged to patronize only approved ticketing channels and report any suspected misconduct or irregularities through official customer service platforms to facilitate prompt investigation and corrective action. The NRC further reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on practices that could undermine public confidence in the rail system, stressing that any individual found culpable of misconduct would be sanctioned in accordance with established regulations. Rail transport stakeholders have welcomed the Corporation’s response, noting that sustained engagement with passengers and prompt attention to complaints are essential to maintaining public trust and improving service quality. They also observed that increasing demand for rail transportation, particularly on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, highlights the need for continued investment in rolling stock, station facilities and operational infrastructure to support future growth. The NRC expressed appreciation to passengers for their patience and continued patronage, assuring the travelling public that efforts are ongoing to strengthen service delivery and enhance the overall customer experience. The Corporation pledged to keep passengers informed of significant developments as measures to improve operations on the corridor continue.
