Omar Rababah Reflects On Difficult Election Campaign After Missing Out On Seat
Omar Rababah has announced the end of his electoral journey following decisions by the Labour Party Executive on which districts would be ceded. In a lengthy social media statement, Rababah said he respected the Executive’s decision and thanked the party for allowing him to contest the election. Reflecting on the campaign, he described the experience as both rewarding and extremely difficult, saying he faced continuous attacks, online abuse and public criticism throughout the election period. Rababah claimed there were moments where he felt afraid to post online or organise activities, while also criticising parts of the media for treating him as “a subject for clicks and hits” rather than as a person. Despite this, he said the campaign also brought positive experiences, including meeting new people, receiving support from the Labour Party and strengthening his relationship with his family. Using a football analogy, Rababah said he came “very close”, but “the ball hit the post and went out instead of into the net”. He ended the statement by saying he looks forward “with serenity, gratitude and peace of mind”. What do you make of Omar Rababah’s statement? Image: Omar Rababah •
