LESA Issues Driving Advice As Malta Heads Into The Hotter Months | Lovin Malta
With summer fast approaching and temperatures already climbing, LESA is reminding drivers to take extra precautions behind the wheel in the coming months. Warmer weather, busier roads and increased pedestrian activity can all contribute to greater risks on the road, particularly as more people spend time outdoors and tourist numbers begin to rise. Among the key reminders is the importance of staying hydrated. Dehydration can affect concentration and reaction times, making it harder for drivers to stay alert, especially during long journeys or periods of heavy traffic. Drivers are also being warned to never drink and drive, with alcohol continuing to impair judgment, concentration and reaction times. Another seasonal hazard is sun glare. Bright sunlight during the early morning and late afternoon can temporarily reduce visibility, making it harder to spot vehicles, pedestrians and road signs. With more people expected to be out and about in the coming weeks, motorists are being urged to stay vigilant and watch out for pedestrians crossing roads. LESA also highlighted a lesser-known risk: driving in flip-flops. Loose footwear can slip off, become trapped beneath pedals or reduce a driver’s ability to properly control their vehicle. The authority is also reminding motorists to keep their phones out of reach while driving, stressing that distracted driving remains one of the biggest dangers on Malta’s roads. And while it may seem obvious, seatbelts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce serious injuries in the event of a collision. “A few simple precautions can help keep everyone safe on Malta’s roads this summer,” LESA said. As Malta heads into the hotter months of the year, the message is simple: drive responsibly and arrive safely. Share to raise awareness! •
