The European Commission said Thursday
that it has paid the ninth instalment of Italy's National
Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP or PNRR in Italian), a
tranche worth 12.8 billion euros.
It said this means Rome has now received 85% of the 194.4
billion euros (71.8 billion in grants and 122.6 billion in
loans) earmarked for Italy's NRRP.
The NRRP seeks to make the Italian economy greener and more
modern with projects financed with the help of EU grants and
low-interest loans under of the bloc's post-Covid Recovery Fund
- NextGenerationEU
Payment of the tranches is linked to the achievement of
milestones regarding the investments and related structural
reforms.
The reforms and investments for the ninth instalment regarded
public administration and the justice system and education
systems.
Raffaele Fitto, the Executive Vice President of the European
Commission with responsibilities for Cohesion and Reforms, said
the payment was an "important milestone that confirms the
progress in implementing the PNRR and its contribution to
Italy's growth and modernisation".
