Players and officials of the Rivers United on Thursday sustained injuries as their team bus was involved in a road accident while travelling to Awka, Anambra State, for their President’s Cup round of 16 fixture against Nasarawa United.
The Nigeria Premier Football League side was involved in the road crash shortly after they left Port-Harcourt city.
The club confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the accident occurred along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt shortly after the team departed from its camp.

The Media officer of Rivers United, Charles Mayuku, said some players and officials sustained minor injuries in the accident, but there were no fatalities or life-threatening injuries.
The club also appreciated the concern and prayers from supporters and the wider football community, promising to provide further updates on the team’s travel plans and the status of the Federation Cup fixture in due course.

“The safety, health and well-being of our players and officials remain our utmost priority. We can confirm that some players and officials sustained minor injuries in the accident.
“Thankfully, there have been no fatalities or life-threatening injuries reported. All affected individuals are currently receiving appropriate medical attention and are in stable condition,” he said.
