The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed food items to orphans and vulnerable households in Adamawa State as part of efforts to cushion the effects of economic hardship.
Speaking during the distribution exercise in Yola on Thursday, the Head of Resettlement and Early Recovery at the NEDC, Mr. Lawan Hamidu, said the intervention aligns with the commission’s mandate to support the welfare of people in the North-East.
He explained that the commission routinely provides assistance whenever it identifies challenges affecting vulnerable groups in society.

“This is part of our regular intervention to support vulnerable persons and ease the impact of prevailing socio-economic challenges,” he said.
Hamidu urged wealthy individuals and organisations to complement government efforts by supporting the less privileged, noting that such acts would promote peace and social stability.
Also speaking, the NEDC Coordinator in Adamawa State, Mr Khalifa Lawan, said more than 150 organisations were expected to benefit from the distribution.
He said the items distributed include rice, spaghetti and cooking oil.
He appealed to the leaders of beneficiary organisations to ensure the items reach the intended recipients.
