Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia Culture Minister Fadli Zon said the "Panoramica" art exhibition is part of the commemoration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Uruguay and serves to strengthen bilateral ties through cultural exchange.
"The event marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Uruguay, which began on June 9, 1966. Culture can serve as a bridge between the two countries, despite their vast geographical distance," Fadli said while opening the exhibition at the National Gallery of Indonesia in Jakarta on Thursday.
Fadli hoped the cultural cooperation between Indonesia and Uruguay would continue to grow, not only through exhibitions featuring works by Uruguayan artists in Indonesia but also by showcasing the works of Indonesian artists in the South American country.
According to Fadli, the Culture Ministry would explore further cooperation opportunities with the Indonesian Embassy in Uruguay to expand bilateral artistic and cultural exchanges.
He hoped the Uruguayan artist, Manuel Rodriguez, could create works reflecting his experiences and expressions of Indonesian culture, as he has done in various other countries.
Fadli added the government planned to continue cultural collaboration with Uruguay, including through the organization of an art exhibition in October 2026.
"We hope to hold similar activities in Indonesia while also bringing works and stories about Indonesia to Uruguay at the right time," he said.
Additionally, the Uruguayan Ambassador to Indonesia Cristina Gonzalez said the exhibition served as an important momentum to introduce Uruguay's cultural identity to the Indonesian public.
"Through art, we can build a dialogue that transcends geographical and linguistic boundaries. The exhibition represents the spirit of Uruguay while also highlighting universal values that are close to Indonesian culture, such as the relationship between humans and nature, tradition, and identity," Gonzalez said.
The Embassy of Uruguay in Indonesia in collaboration with the Culture Ministry through the Museum and Cultural Heritage Agency and the National Gallery of Indonesia organized the exhibition as a space for cultural exchange to strengthen friendship between the two countries.
"Panoramica" exhibition features works by two Uruguayan artists; Luis Fabini, and Manuel Rodriguez, who present different perspectives on landscapes and the relationship between humans and nature. The exhibition will be held from June 5 to 28, 2026 at Building D of the National Gallery in Jakarta.
