Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's anti-graft agency (KPK) said it would assess its institutional needs after President Prabowo Subianto called for stronger oversight bodies and law enforcement agencies to combat misuse of state funds.
"We will identify what is needed, whether human resources, budget, operational financing or other support. This requires further discussion," KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto said on Thursday.
Setyo said the commission would discuss the matter internally by involving all deputy divisions within the agency.
The KPK viewed the president's remarks as evidence of support and commitment toward anti-corruption efforts in Indonesia.
"The president's commitment has been shown in several ways. There has been no intervention in law enforcement, alongside seriousness and many other measures," he said.
Prabowo expressed support for strengthening oversight institutions and law enforcement agencies during a national meeting for the Free Nutritious Meals program on June 3.
He asked several institutions, including the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency, the KPK and the Attorney General's Office, to submit what they require to improve performance.
The president said stronger oversight institutions and law enforcement agencies were necessary to prevent misuse of public funds and uphold state authority.
