Former centre-right Venice mayor Luigi
Brugnaro was indicted Friday on charges of fiddling his election
expenses.
Brugnaro, 64, who recently ended his term after setting up his
own party Coraggio Italia, has been indicted for alleged
violation of the law on electoral expenses, relating to his 2020
local election campaign.
The trial has been set for September 21.
Also indicted alongside Brugnaro, on various charges of forgery
and illicit financing, are Brugnaro's chief of staff, Morris
Ceron; Walter Bianchi of the Northeast Production and
Development Consortium; and Adriano Giugie, the campaign
expenses representative.
At the center of the investigation is an alleged 'exceeding' of
the electoral spending limit of around €300,000.
