The government is considering
extending a cut in excise duty on petrol and diesel amid the
energy shock from the Iran war until the end of June, Deputy
Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Friday.
Regarding fuel excise tax cuts, "the government is considering
extending the measures adopted until the end of June, but the
problem of energy costs is not only related to the emergency; it
is a very temporary problem, but also a comprehensive one, so we
are calling for a single European energy market," Tajani said in
Rapallo at the 55th national conference of young entrepreneurs
of Confindustria on the eve of the expiration of the extension
of the fuel excise tax cuts.
The government's March 19 20-day fuel excise duty cut due to the
Iran war was extended by cabinet for 21 days on April 1,
unchanged for diesel (20 cents per litre) and reduced to 5 cents
per litre for petrol, and later extended unchanged until June 6,
as fuel prices soar due to the war started by the United States
and Israel on Tehran on February 28.
