Amazon is making some changes to its nonfiction production team.
Months after landing the top unscripted job at the streamer, Levy has tasked Justin Dudek to lead all of its unscripted and doc series production teams as well as MGM Alternative Production.
Dudek was formerly SVP, Physical Production at MGM Alternative, where he oversaw production on shows including Survivor, The Voice, Shark Tank and The Real Housewives franchise.
Head of Nonfiction Series Levy laid out the plans in a note to staff, seen by Deadline, which you can read below. Dudek starts the new role next week.
It marks the latest change for Amazon’s unscripted production divisions. Last year, Deadline revealed that MGM Alternative, which includes On Patrol: Live producer Big Fish Entertainment and Vanderpump Rules producer Evolution Media, moved under Amazon MGM Studios.
It is the latest move by former Netflix exec Levy, who brought in former Disney exec Tiffany Faigus and ex-Netflix exec Ariane Wu to her team in April.
Jenn Levy’s Note To Staff:
Team,
I’m writing to share an organizational update for the Nonfiction Production team here in the US.
As we continue to build the new Nonfiction initiative, a key priority is creating a unified Nonfiction Production organization that would bring Unscripted, Doc Series, and MGM Alternative production together under a single leader — streamlining processes, establishing shared best practices, and building an even more efficient operation as we grow our slate.
Effective Monday 6/8, Justin Dudek will serve as the single-threaded leader owning all of Nonfiction Production. Justin brings over 25 years of experience in unscripted production across network, cable, and streaming platforms. Serving as SVP of Physical Production for MGM Alternative he oversees production across competition series, game shows, docu-series, and branded content — including some of the biggest franchises in genre history like Survivor, The Voice, Shark Tank, The Real Housewives and more. Justin played a key role in transitioning MGM Alternative into Amazon Studios systems following the acquisition and knows the inner workings well. Prior to MGM, Justin built the physical production department at Electus, LLC from the ground up, establishing production, post-production, and accounting infrastructure across scripted and unscripted content over a seven-year tenure.
His depth of experience across a variety of formats and platforms — combined with his institutional knowledge of how we work — makes him the right person to lead this unified team.
As part of this change, Eugene Caldwell and his team will move from Mark Hoerr’s organization to report to Justin. Eugene’s genre expertise and deep Amazon MGM Studios experience are essential to making this successful. Malon Murphy and Wayne Brooks will continue to report to Eugene. Nonfiction Post Production will remain under Mark Hoerr at this time. Big Fish and Evolution Production Management reporting will stay the same and they will continue to collaborate with Justin across various production matters.
I’m thrilled to see this team evolving to meet the scale of where we’re headed. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you!
