If Jakarta wants to become a global city, then knowledge must play a very important role.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government stated that developing human resources (HR) is one of the key factors in infrastructure development and Jakarta’s transformation into a global city.
“The essence of a city is actually its people. How we can develop high-quality people for Jakarta is very important,” said Head of the Jakarta Regional Development Planning Office (Bappeda), Atika Nur Rahmania, here on Saturday.
According to her, the true essence of a city lies not in its buildings, roads, or technology, but in the quality of the people who live and grow within it.
“The success of a city is ultimately determined by the ability of its residents to continuously learn, adapt, and innovate in facing changing times,” Rahmania said.
She added that behind many development programs, it is essential to ensure that Jakarta residents have access to knowledge, skills, and opportunities to grow sustainably.
Her office places knowledge management as one of the main strategies in urban development. Knowledge is seen not only as a source of information but also as an important asset for creating a society that can actively participate in the city’s transformation.
The government is seeking to provide platforms that serve as spaces for learning, collaboration, and idea exchange for the public, she added.
These efforts aim to build a culture of lifelong learning while strengthening residents’ capacity to face increasingly complex urban challenges.
In line with this, Dean of Cities & Local Governments Institute Asia-Pacific, Bambang Susantono, said that knowledge is an inseparable element of urban progress.
“If Jakarta wants to become a global city, then knowledge must play a very important role. All successful global cities have the ability to utilize knowledge as the foundation of their development,” Susantono said.
