Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, operator of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, said flight operations continued without disruption after smoke emerged at Terminal 2 on Saturday, with the affected area restored to normal within minutes.
A plume of smoke was brought under control quickly, and all impacted sections of the terminal have resumed normal operations, Yudistiawan, assistant deputy for communication and legal affairs at the airport, said in a statement.
The airport's rapid response enabled conditions at Terminal 2 to be stabilized within a short period, allowing passenger processing and terminal activities to continue without prolonged interruptions.
Airport management said flight operations and passenger services remained safe, orderly, and fully functional throughout the incident, with no impact on scheduled departures or arrivals.
The operator also apologized for the inconvenience experienced by travelers, reiterating that passenger safety, security, and comfort remain its highest operational priorities.
The emergency alert was triggered Saturday afternoon after smoke was detected inside Terminal 2 at Indonesia's busiest airport, prompting an immediate response from airport personnel and emergency units.
Initial assessments found the smoke originated from a ground-handling operational vehicle that suffered a technical malfunction while located in the makeup baggage area of Terminal 2D.
Airport operations personnel and relevant units immediately implemented emergency procedures after receiving reports of the incident, securing the area and assessing potential risks to passengers and facilities.
Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting teams, engineering personnel, and operations staff were deployed to manage the situation, conduct initial mitigation measures, and move the affected vehicle to an open area.
According to Yudistiawan, coordinated action allowed authorities to control the source of the disturbance within about five to 10 minutes of the initial report, enabling rapid normalization of terminal conditions.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport is continuing to coordinate with the ground-handling company to evaluate the vehicle involved.
The operator said it remains committed to maintaining safety and security standards across all airport operations.
