Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to oversee the accelerated construction of Phase II People's Schools (Sekolah Rakyat) to ensure the educational facilities are ready for use in the 2026/2027 academic year.
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said the government has been closely monitoring the implementation of the project, including ensuring that any challenges faced by contractors are addressed promptly.
“We collaborate with Danantara almost every day. If there are financial difficulties or other obstacles in the field, we help find solutions so that construction work can continue without disruption. Service providers are now increasingly optimistic and are working faster to meet the completion targets,” Dody said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Sunday.
As of June 4, 2026, five People's School sites recorded the highest physical progress and were classified within the green zone for accelerated development.
The five sites are located in Semarang, which recorded 86.58 percent progress, and Sragen Regency, with 86.09 percent progress, both in Central Java. The People's School project in Bengkulu reached 85.77 percent completion.
Other leading sites include Medan, with 85.69 percent progress, and Sidenreng Rappang Regency (Sidrap), which recorded 84.83 percent completion. These achievements place the five locations among the highest-performing sites out of the 93 Phase II People's School projects currently under construction by the ministry.
According to Dody, construction acceleration has been carried out through coordination among multiple stakeholders, including contractors, construction management teams, local governments, as well as financing and workforce support providers.
“We are working within a very short timeframe. Ideally, the project might take around nine months, but current circumstances require us to move much faster. Therefore, daily monitoring is conducted to ensure progress remains on track,” he said.
Data from the ministry's Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure showed that average physical progress across the 93 Phase II People's School sites had reached 71.13 percent as of June 4, 2026, with a consistently improving trend over the past week. Of the ongoing projects, 12 sites have surpassed 80 percent completion and entered the green-zone acceleration category.
In Semarang, for example, the school complex has begun to take shape, with educational buildings, dormitories, and supporting facilities nearing completion.
Similar conditions can be seen in Sragen, Medan, Bengkulu, and Sidrap, where construction has entered its final stages. Work at these sites is being carried out almost continuously to meet the targeted completion date of June 20, 2026.
To maintain the pace of development, the Public Works Ministry has also strengthened workforce support at project sites. As of early June 2026, Phase II People's School construction had employed approximately 78,113 workers.
Additional personnel have also been deployed to several sites requiring accelerated progress through support from the Indonesian military (TNI).
