
CEBU CITY, Philippines — More than a thousand track and field athletes are set to compete in the biggest athletics meet of the year, the ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championships from June 10 to 14 at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas, Tarlac.
Among them is the 20-strong Team Cebu City delegation, led by Philippine women’s marathon record-holder and Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Artjoy Torregosa.
The squad, formed by head coach Arvin Loberanis and coach Marvin Rafols, brings together a mix of promising newcomers and seasoned multi-titled veterans, with Torregosa serving as its banner athlete.

Fleet from schools
Also in the lineup is a strong contingent from the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, highlighted by PRISAA National Games three-gold medalist and Most Outstanding Athlete Michelle Zamora.
Joining Zamora are fellow USC standouts Juliana Nicole Loberanis, Justine Dela Cruz, Fritz Tulod, Jamaica Nina Punay, Junerey Singit, Kristine Mae Tabarno, John Marc Dizon, Jayvee Alvarez, and Mikki Ochoa.
The team is further reinforced by athletes from other schools, including Far Eastern University’s Jazzpeer Lanz Arcenal and Joseph Antiola III, University of the Philippines’ Cody Blake Renejane, and SHS-AdC’s Alejandra Maive Sande.

Completing the Cebu City roster are Shine Mae Cardona and Simoune Tautho, who represent Barangay Sambag 1 alongside Torregosa.
Foreign delegates
International participation also adds depth to the meet, with South Korea sending 15 athletes, Papua New Guinea fielding 12, and regional neighbors Indonesia and Singapore bringing 10 athletes each. The event is co-presented by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority and New Clark City, in coordination with the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association.
On the local front, 870 athletes, including members of the national pool and representatives from various clubs, will also compete for honors. The meet is supported by CEL Logistics Inc., United Asia Automotive Group Inc., Pocari Sweat, and Masiv Sports.
Overseas-based Filipino athletes are also expected to see action, led by Olympians Kristina Knott and Lauren Hoffman, who competed in the Tokyo and Paris Games, respectively.
The competition also serves as a qualifying event for the 20th Asian Games set from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
