Two LESA officers have been praised for their quick thinking after helping rescue an eight-month-old baby who was trapped inside a locked car in Lija.
The incident happened on 28th May near St Andrew’s Chapel, with the baby’s mother later sharing her experience in a message of thanks to the officers involved.
According to the mother, she had just secured her baby in a car seat and shut the door when the vehicle automatically locked itself with the keys still inside.
With temperatures soaring and the black vehicle rapidly heating up under the sun, the situation quickly became a cause for concern.
The mother immediately sought help from nearby LESA officers, who rushed to assist.
One of the officers broke a car window to gain access, allowing the mother to unlock the vehicle and safely retrieve her child before the situation escalated further.
While she personally thanked the officers on the day, the mother also contacted LESA afterwards to formally commend what she described as a heroic act.
The intervention ensured the baby was safely reunited with their mother and prevented what could have become a far more serious incident.
