Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono stated that the government is targeting a reduction in national logistics costs to 12.5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2029.
“Our goal is simple, which is to make logistics costs more efficient, strengthen inter-regional connectivity, encourage investment and job creation, and ensure that the distribution of goods and public services reaches the people more effectively,” Yudhoyono said in a statement here on Monday.
According to Yudhoyono, Indonesia has been promoting various cooperation opportunities in human resource development, knowledge and technology transfer, and capacity strengthening for the national transportation industry to better prepare for future challenges.
Yudhoyono added that amid various global economic challenges, Indonesia needs to continue expanding collaboration opportunities that can enhance national competitiveness.
According to the minister, the most important aspect is not who the cooperation partners are, but how each partnership can deliver tangible benefits to the public.
He emphasized that for Indonesia, the world's largest archipelagic nation with 17,380 islands and a population of around 280 million, transportation is not merely a means of mobility, but the lifeline that connects communities, strengthens national unity, and opens access to economic opportunities.
“Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic nation, with 17,380 islands and a population of around 280 million. For us, transportation is the lifeline that unites the nation and connects all regions across the archipelago,” he remarked.
Without an integrated transportation system, he noted, the distribution of goods and services will remain costly and continue to hamper economic growth in various regions.
He emphasized that strengthening inter-island connectivity is key to promoting more equitable development while reducing national logistics costs.
