
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Uriel Avila delivered spectacular scoring performances to power Batch 2022-Comforser Tires to a hard-earned victory as the elimination round of the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 29 concluded on Sunday, June 7, at the Magis Eagles Arena in Mandaue City.
Avila, a University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors player, turned in arguably the most explosive performance of the season, erupting for a massive 60-point double-double to lead Batch 2022-Comforser Tires to a thrilling 107-106 victory over Batch 2021-FADI.
In Batch 2022’s victory, both teams figured in a tightly contested battle that featured 20 lead changes and 11 deadlocks.

Dominance on court
Avila dominated with 60 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, and one steal. Fellow USC Warrior Jhoernel Tangkay contributed 19 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, three steals, and a block, while Rey Tristan Uy Fuentes chipped in 22 points and eight rebounds.
Despite the victory, Batch 2022 failed to secure a playoff berth, finishing the elimination round with a 2-5 win-loss record.

Fuentes heads 2021 team
Batch 2021, meanwhile, still clinched the fourth and final playoff berth after ending the eliminations with a 3-4 record. They earned the spot through the points quotient system, edging Batches 2025 and 2026, which finished with identical records.
In the loss, Batch 2021 placed five players in double figures. Rey Marcus Fuentes IV led the way with 28 points and eight rebounds, while Anskie-Mclouisse Espina posted a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Division B results
In Division B, Batch 2012-Harley Davidson escaped with an overtime victory, 88-83, behind Adven Jess Diputado’s all-around effort of 46 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Kendrick Siao recorded a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Julius Cadavis also tallied a double-double with 13 points and 14 boards.
Batch 2013 was paced by Fletcher Galvez, who finished with a 29-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Jorine Cercado added 13 points.
The contest featured 12 lead changes and four deadlocks. Batch 2012 appeared headed for a comfortable win after building a 16-point lead, 45-29, early in the second half. However, Batch 2013 mounted a strong comeback, outscoring its opponents in the fourth quarter to force overtime at 77-all.
Batch 2012, however, kept its composure in the extra period and pulled away for the five-point victory.
Both Batch 2012 and Batch 2013 finished the elimination round with identical 5-1 records. Batch 2013 secured the No. 2 seed, while Batch 2012 settled for the No. 3 spot via the points quotient system. Batch 2004 emerged as the top seed.
Other games
In the other games, Batch 2015-BRX defeated Batch 2014, 73-69, in a Division C matchup behind Janjan Jaboneta’s 22-point performance.
In another Division B game, Batch 2010-Hatch IT Solutions routed Batch 2006, 69-41, with Jasper Diaz erupting for 29 points.
In Division A action, Batch 2002 overwhelmed Magis Medical Services, 100-54, behind Jose Emmanuel Cabugao’s 22-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Meanwhile, Batch 2001-ARQ cruised past Batch 2000-2KCares, 79-38, with Carlo Villarica leading the way with 20 points.
