The Catholic Church must give
reparations to sexual abuse victims, Pope Leo XIV told Spanish
bishops on his visit to Spain Monday.
"Our journey is made of encounters," "one of the most painful
is with those who have been hurt by the very people who should
have cared for them, including members of the clergy," said Leo
at the headquarters of the Episcopal Conference.
"Faced with this scourge, the ecclesial community is called to
respond with listening, truth, justice, reparation, and an
ever-deepening commitment to prevention and a culture of care.
Every wounded person must be able to find sincere listening,
acceptance, protection, and real paths to healing."
In other remarks, Leo voiced concern over re-armament presented
as inevitable; said that no nation should be left on its own to
cope with migrant flows; and repeated the dogma of defending
natural life from conception to death.
