Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto officially swore in Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) President Said Iqbal as his special adviser for manpower affairs at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday.
The appointment followed Presidential Decree No. 58/P of 2026 on the designation of the presidential special adviser for manpower and labor welfare.
Prabowo led the oath-taking ceremony at 4:30 p.m. local time, swearing in Iqbal alongside National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Head Nanik S. Deyang, BGN Deputy Head Agustina Arumsari, and Deputy Head Major General (Retd.) Trenggono.
Under the president’s guidance, the officials pledged allegiance to the 1945 Constitution and committed to upholding all laws and regulations in service to the nation.
They also swore to carry out their duties with responsibility, integrity, and professionalism. Following the ceremony, the four officials signed the official minutes of the inauguration.
The president then extended his congratulations, followed by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and several cabinet members.
A prominent labor activist and KSPI leader, Said Iqbal is no stranger to national politics. He previously ran for a House of Representatives (DPR) seat through the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) in 2009 and was elected president of the Labor Party in 2021.
Upon arriving at the palace earlier, Iqbal said he was committed to advocating for labor issues from within the government.
“After consulting with KSPI and workers, we decided to work from within,” he said.
Iqbal added that the move was influenced by Prabowo’s support for workers, farmers, fishermen, and teachers.
He also assured that his government role would not limit labor groups’ ability to criticize or monitor employment policies and programs.
