Jakarta (ANTARA) - Danantara Indonesia mulls business expansion to aircraft leasing following purchase plan of new Boeing passenger jets for flag carrier Garuda Indonesia.
"We are considering the possibility of Danantara opening its own aircraft leasing company," Dony Oskaria, Danantara's Chief Operating Officer (COO) and State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN)'s Head, said at the Senayan parliament building here on Monday.
Garuda Indonesia will acquire 50 new Boeing jets, as obligated by the trade deal with the United States earlier this year, Oskaria added.
"There are many considerations. Nonetheless, we need to carry out our commitment," he noted.
Oskaria explained Danantara Indonesia needs to consider several things before the purchase, including the appropriate time of the Boeing aircraft's arrival and the suitable business leasing model.

"We will consider which option is the most feasible," Oskaria remarked.
Indonesia and the US last February sealed a bilateral trade deal titled "Toward a New Golden Age for the US-Indonesia Alliance", which set the conditions of reciprocal trade between the two countries.
Under the trade deal, Indonesia is required to acquire commercial planes and aviation-related goods and services from the US valued at US$13.5 billion.
The planned purchase of 50 Boeing jets according to the deal had been confirmed by Indonesian Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani on February 20, who added that his ministry and Danantara will cooperate to carry out the trade deal.
