Amid the colorful atmosphere of São Paulo's 30th LGBT+ Pride Parade, two colors stood out on Sunday (7): green and yellow. Large crowds attended wearing the colors of Brazil's flag, both as a statement against Bolsonarism and in support of the World Cup.
Although organizers did not make any such request, many participants collectively embraced the national colors. "I'm proud to be Brazilian and of our culture," said event promoter Thauan Libarino.
The parade began on Paulista Avenue in the morning with speeches against the far right, criticism of declining sponsorships and calls to support candidates who defend LGBTQIA+ causes.
As in recent years, Mayor Ricardo Nunes and São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas did not attend the event.
Parade director Matheus Emílio, 30, said the celebration is always open to representatives of the executive and legislative branches regardless of ideology. He nevertheless lamented the absence of Nunes and Tarcísio, noting that the event is one of the city's major cultural landmarks.
