It is almost time for Carvoeiro Black & White Night, one of the Algarve’s biggest summer events, which is set for Saturday, June 20.
Inspired by the Celtic tradition of Litha, which celebrates the longest day of the year, the event will once again transform the seaside village into a giant open-air celebration marking the summer solstice.
Organised by the municipal council of Lagoa, the event has grown significantly since its launch in 2014 and now attracts more than 30,000 visitors in a single evening, making it one of the country’s largest outdoor celebrations.
As in previous years, the festivities will take place throughout the centre of Carvoeiro, with entertainment areas spread across different parts of the village. The programme begins at 8.30pm and continues until 3am.
The main attraction will once again be the large dance floor set up at Carvoeiro beach and the beachside square, where DJs will play dance music classics and contemporary hits throughout the night.
Visitors are encouraged to follow the event’s traditional dress code by wearing black and white, a theme reflected throughout the evening’s artistic performances, music, street entertainment, dance and visual displays.
To help manage the large crowds expected, the municipality will provide a free shuttle bus service linking Carvoeiro with several parking areas, including the Fatacil fairground site, Intermarché, Apolónia, Aldi and Gramital. The service will operate continuously between 6pm and 4am.
Entry is free.
Meanwhile, organisers are reminding visitors that glass containers are prohibited on the beach and that drones are not permitted anywhere within the event area for safety reasons.
