EXCLUSIVE: Craig Zobel’s thriller Turpentine has rounded out its cast with the addition of Paul Walter Hauser (Resident Evil), Boyd Holbrook (A Complete Unknown), Michael Peña (A Working Man), Will Brill (The Musical), Teyonah Parris (No Good Deed), and Veronika Slowikowska (SNL).
Character details are under wraps, with production underway in Atlanta, Georgia. Previously announced cast includes Melissa McCarthy, Connor Storrie, and Bill Camp.
In Turpentine, after her son hires friends to steal the family’s antique gun collection to pay off a debt, a mother steps in to clean up the mess, triggering a chain of events that stretch the family bond to its limit.
Based on a script by Justin Varava that made the 2024 Black List, the film is produced by Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s T-Street and Shivani Rawat’s ShivHans Pictures. Producers include Katie McNeill, Ben LeClair, Rawat, Julie Goldstein, and Zobel. Executive producers are Connor Flanagan, Kenneth Yu, and McCarthy. Dan Watson and Nate Meyer serve as co-producers.
“Craig has such a sharp command of tone, and TURPENTINE walks that exciting line between darkly funny and deeply unsettling,” T-Street’s Bergman told us. “Justin’s script immediately stood out to us for its originality and character work, and this incredible cast elevates it even further. We’re thrilled to be bringing this story to life with such a bold creative team.”
ShivHans Pictures’ Rawat said, “From the moment we read the script, we were gripped by its complex characters and twisting plot. We also knew Craig would be the perfect filmmaker to lift it off the page with all its layers intact. We feel fortunate to have such a remarkable cast and are proud to partner with T-Street on a film that feels both wildly entertaining and thematically resonant.”
Zobel added, “It’s a true joy to bring this story to life with such an accomplished cast. These actors bring incredible depth, intensity and wit to the material, and with Melissa at the center of this dysfunctional family, we’re telling a story that will keep audiences surprised and entertained until the very end. I’m thrilled to be making it with T-Street, ShivHans Pictures, and this team.”
