SNL breakout Ashley Padilla has inked a deal to join Universal’s comedy The Catch, starring Emma Stone and Chris Pine, Deadline can confirm.
The film’s official logline is being kept under wraps, though it’s previously been reported as being about a baseball fan, played by Stone, who accidentally alters the trajectory of a game-winning catch. Slated for release on May 21, 2027, The Catch hails from director Dave McCary, who will work from a draft by Jen Statsky and Travis Helwig. Patrick Kang and Michael Levin wrote the original spec script.
Stone, McCary and Ali Herting will produce through Fruit Tree’s first look deal with Universal Pictures, alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Levine through 21 Laps, and Michael H. Weber. Senior Executive Vice President of Production Development Erik Baiers and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the studio.
One of the most discussed current SNL cast members, Padilla joined in Season 50. She hails from the Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles and has previously been seen in the final season of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. News of her casting in The Catch was first reported by THR.
