
Swimming has been banned in an area off Dawret il-Qalb Imqaddsa in Birżebbuġa after a sewage outflow was traced to private residences in Triq it-Tankijiet.
The Environmental Health Directorate issued a warning advising the public not to bathe in the affected area, where warning signs have also been erected.
According to the directorate, the source of the contamination has been identified and an abatement notice has been issued. Legal action has also been initiated against the property owner.
Authorities said it is currently impossible to determine how long the contamination will persist.
The Environmental Health Directorate is continuing to monitor the situation and has urged the public to follow the swimming ban until further notice.
