LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The provincial government of Pangasinan will provide financial assistance to provinces in Mindanao affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck on Monday.
Gov. Ramon Guico III confirmed the province’s commitment to extend aid when asked whether Pangasinan would help support ongoing disaster recovery and rehabilitation efforts in the quake-hit areas.

Vice Governor Mark Lambino said Pangasinan has sufficient calamity funds to share with affected local government units, noting that the province has largely been spared from major disasters in recent months except for the effects of Typhoons Emong and Uwan.

“We have a surplus in our calamity fund that we can share with the earthquake-affected provinces. However, we are still awaiting specific instructions from the governor and have yet to determine the exact amount that can be allocated,” Lambino said.
He added that providing financial assistance would be more practical than sending relief goods because of the considerable distance between Pangasinan and Mindanao.
Pangasinan has previously extended assistance to areas affected by natural disasters. In 2025, the province donated P1 million each to Bogo City in Cebu following a magnitude 6.9 earthquake and to provinces severely affected by Super Typhoon Nando and Tropical Storm Ompong.
Lambino also said he would direct the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to verify the condition of Pangasinan natives currently residing in the earthquake-affected areas of Mindanao./coa
