House Democratic leaders will speak with reporters Tuesday morning as their GOP counterparts are seeking to pass an extension of the nation’s warrantless spying powers ahead of a June 12 deadline.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said Monday he will not vote to renew Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) unless acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte, who also serves as chief of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, is removed from the role.
Pulte was tapped by President Trump to temporarily replace Tulsi Gabbard, who resigned from the post last month. The appointment has caused pushback on both sides of the aisle.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EDT.
