Summer House: Bravo Exec Addresses Future of Season 11 After Amanda Batula, West Wilson Drama
When one Summer House door closes, another one opens.
At least that's how Hannah Berner views her 2021 firing from the Bravo series five years after departing the reality show.
"It was a matter of, 'You need everyone to be friends," the 34-year-old reflected on her season five exit during the June 8 episode of Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast. "Not everyone was getting along. It was a choice."
At the time, Hannah fiercely butted heads with Summer House O.G. Kyle Cooke with the drama spilling over into her other friendships in the house.
"I was gonna be the one kiboshed," Hannah continued, noting the network's decision to part ways with her was actually a blessing in disguise. "I just say, getting fired [equals] star power."
The stand-up comedian continued, "It’s a thin line between love and hate. Getting fired, they were like, 'You’re too much for reality TV.' I was like, 'Iconic.'"
Despite the past drama, Hannah—who joined the show season three alongside BFF Paige DeSorbo—said she "learned so much" from the experience and it even pushed her to take her career to the next level.
"I get a call, 'You’re fired from Summer House, you’re fired from Chat Room,' and I remember thinking, 'Now I need to get a Netflix special,'" she recounted. "I got such a chip on my shoulder. 'Cause you have to be crazy to stand up every night. You have to have some kind of addict mentality. And I remember thinking, 'I love when people put me down or cut me out, or I feel like no one wants me here.' And to come back stronger. I just love that. I love the rising of the phoenix. I love the underdog."
Fast forward five years: Hannah is not only cohost of her and Paige's wildly successful podcast Giggly Squad, she recently premiered her second stand-up special None of My Business on Hulu.

"No one in reality TV gets a Netflix special," she reflected. "So, I was like, 'Let’s f--king go.'"
Plus, Hannah—who married fellow comedian Des Bishop in 2022—noted of her journey, "I never put any of my energy towards hurting anyone. I literally was like, 'And now we’re moving on.'"
And now that she's happily enjoying the fruits of her labor, Hannah offered a piece of advice for fans down in the dumps over bumps in the road to success.
"I just want people to know things are going to happen to you regardless," the New York native shared. "S--tty things happen to you every day. It’s how you react to it."
