Steven Spielberg Reveals If His Wife Kate Capshaw and Kids Believe in Aliens
Steven Spielberg is disclosing his thoughts on worlds beyond our own.
After all, the Oscar-winning director shared insight into whether his wife Kate Chapshaw or their blended family of seven kids join his belief in aliens.
"I'm not sure my wife has given it that much thought, certainly not as much thought as I have," Spielberg exclusively told E! News at the Disclosure Day New York City premiere June 8. "My kids have given it a lot of thought and they're very open to the experiences that others have had."
"We tend to believe the believers," he continued. "Kate also believes the believers and I think they will be vindicated eventually."
Though the 79-year-old—dad to Max Spielberg, 40, Theo Spielberg, 37, Sasha Spielberg, 36, Sawyer Spielberg, 34, Mikaela Spielberg, 30, Destry Allyn Spielberg, 29, and stepdad to 49-year-old Jessica Capshaw—is open to the possibility of extraterrestrial beings, he isn't focusing on any potential future interactions. In fact, he's had enough of them onscreen.
"I don't look ahead to that kind of experience because vicariously, I've experienced contact between the species in a number of movies," he explained on the red carpet, "starting with Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and then E.T., and now Disclosure Day. In between that, I co-produced the Men in Black series and I directed War of the Worlds."
He added, "So this is a playground I really enjoy working within."
Beyond his wife and kids, Spielberg revealed that another family member also believed in aliens: his late dad Arnold Spielberg.
"I've always believed, even as a child, because of my father," he previously told E!. "He said there's intelligent life out there. My dad read a lot of science fiction. So, I was born believing that out there, intelligent life exists."

"I got influenced, as we all have, by watching documentaries and films, and people saying, 'I saw something at night,'" he continued. "'I couldn't understand it. It came over my head. It was huge. It was festooned with lights.'"
In addition to inspiring several science fiction movies, he emphasized that aliens became more than just urban legends and conspiracy theories.
"It really became consistently truthful," Spielberg admitted. "I, as I got older and older, started believing that something really is going on that we're not being told."
His new film Disclosure Day, starring Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, Josh O'Connor and more, premieres in theaters June 12.
