Alex Eala overpowered an error-prone Shuai Zhang in the HSBC Championships on Tuesday, June 9, winning their first-round match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
She will next face the American athlete Iva Jovic in the round of 16 at The Queen’s Club in Kensington. It was Jovic who stopped her French Open run last May, beating her in the first round.
Eala battled from 0-2 down, then saved three break points to wrap up the first set, 6-3, in 37 minutes. Over the weekend, she won the Lexus Birmingham Open WTA 125 championship, for a strong start in her grass-court campaign.
