Athletes from Obstacle Course Academy have delivered historic performances for Malta at the OCR European Championships held in Spain during the last weekend of May.
Competing against some of Europe’s top obstacle course racing athletes, the Maltese team secured multiple podium finishes and milestone results for the country in the rapidly growing sport.
In the demanding 3K Short Course event, Ben Pace claimed silver in the 10-11 Male category, while Emily Vella also secured silver in the 12-13 Female division. Michael Borg narrowly missed out on a podium finish with fourth place, while April Gatt finished seventh in the 14-15 Female category.
The OCR100 event also produced major achievements for Maltese athletes. Emily Vella and Julian Debono became the first Maltese athletes ever to reach the quarter-finals of the OCR100 at a European Championship level, eventually placing seventh and eighth respectively.
Athletes Andy Caruana, April Gatt and Ben Pace also reached the Final 16 in their categories.
Despite injuries affecting several competitors before and during the championships, the Maltese contingent continued competing strongly throughout the event.
The academy credited the results to years of structured training led by coach Ivan Gauci and the wider coaching team at OCA in Imrieħel.
Huge well done to all the athletes involved!
